Exhaust heat shield

Better looking with, or without

Here’s a photo without the heat shield. What do people think?

I vote for 'with'. The black pipe is not particularly pretty.

Well, the heat shield is off now so it has to stay like that.
I just thought l would see if it could be done easily and it’s not really that hard.

The bracket on the clamp was easy to cut off, the one on the pipe more tricky.
First l sawed it off with a hacksaw and then cut off as much of the remaining weld as possible
After that l filed it down until smooth then painted with high temperature matt black.

It was just an interim thing until l can afford the Akrapovic can but at £500 (an eighth of what l paid for the bike!) it might have to wait until later in the year.

I donít have an issue with the black pipe. I prefer the stock end can (if not the sound) to some of the silver coloured monstrosities out there.

Agree. The stock can that KTM went with for the 790 Duke is horrible looking.

Funny how tastes differ.
I just love the looks of the 790 Duke OEM silencer.

Anybody know if any performance increase is claimed for the Akrapovic end can?

My insurance will only cover the bike with one fitted if “no performance increase” is claimed.

Well, l guess l have to stay with the original exhaust at least until next year when l can try a different insurance company

It’s not a problem, it looks pretty good compared to some, KTM managed to hide the CAT instead of having a huge silencer hung on the side of the bike.

Given the cat sits alongside the engine in full view I couldnít say it was hidden but I still agree that the end can was a good effort by KTM
