Hi everyone - my name is Tim and I'm returning to biking after an absence of 5 years. I passed my test in the 80's and my IAM qualification in the early 90's. My last bike was a an R6 but I'm looking to buy a Duke 390. With this in mind, can anyone help by telling me what changes were made for the 2019 model. The reason I ask is that I have been offered an unregistered 2018 model at a fantastic price by a KTM dealer and wonder if this is because the 2019 model is better. I asked the dealer if there were any changes and they said "don't think so" which has left me thinking that there could be. Any help on this would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards and looking forward to lots of fun & fellowship

Hello and welcome to the forum. I own a 2018 and from what other members have expressed and my own research, so far it's just a software version update.

It should be a good deal. I also got my 2017 model in the end of 2018 with big discount. The difference from 2018 model was only software version and a small metal cover on the left side hiding/covering exhaust pipe, I still can’t understand value of it.
So my advice just go and get it!

I also bought a new 2018 model in 2019 at a very good discount.
There are still a few of these around, one dealer is offering new 2018 ones at under 4,000 UK

As far as l know they are exactly the same, the main update was at the beginning of 2017 when the bike was completely revised.

Mine was registered new in 2019 but looking at the sticker on the frame it was actually made in March 2018!

Hi Tim, welcome!

I guess they have to get rid of old stock, to meet quotas etc. I don’t think there’s been any changes as the current model only came out in 2017. It looks like there’s a new model 390 coming out in the next year or so which will make prices come down again.

I’m still a pretty new rider, but starting my IAM course in September, looking forward to it!
