My 2017 390 Duke keeps blowing the 15A ABS hydraulic unit fuse .


When this happens I get a red "ABS FAILURE" warning on the display and the speedo stops working but everything else on the bike works and I can ride the bike home BUT when I get home and hit the kill switch and take the key out of the ignition the headlight stays on ?
The only way to get the headlight to turn off is to disconnect the battery for a second .
If I change the fuse everything seems ok but the next time I ride the bike it blows the fuse again .


Has anyone had a similar problem or know what the cause / solution may be ?


I'm loathed to take it to my local KTM dealer as they charge £74 / hour :eek:

It sounds to me that you have some sort of short between the light(s) and the ABS.
You can most likely get it checked at any professional bike repair shop.
No idea what else would trigger an ABS failure other than a faulty ABS unit?
Does the same happen if you don't use the kill switch and just shut her off with the key?

Hi Matt. The electrical gremlins can be due to poor grounding or a strained wiring. Fuses usually blow since they draw high amperage than allowed for. Frayed wires, or + - connectors grazing each other can in fact blow a fuse. Checking for the ABS connectors first for proper fitment and checking the inside of the connectors for any frays can be a starting point. Keep your observations posted.

Yeah - I agree with the group there is more going on here then meets the eye. I had a Rad fan fuse blow one time - replaced it with a quality fuse and havent had a problem since.

I would get it in to the shop and have them trace the root cause

Thought I'd give you an update on this problem .
Took it to my local bike shop , they had it in for a couple of days and checked all the electrics + couldn't find a problem but said they did find a couple of earth connections that needed cleaning up .
Since I got the bike back I've had no issues so either it was a poor earth or maybe a dodgy connection that the bike shop inadvetently fixed while checking the electrics over ?
Either way I'm back on the road :)

Out of curiosity pingywon, what do you consider a "quality" fuse?

Yeah - I agree with the group there is more going on here then meets the eye. I had a Rad fan fuse blow one time - replaced it with a quality fuse and havent had a problem since.
