I bought a 16 duke 390 a few months back and I’ve recently been practicing my wheelies ALOOOTTTTT, Like multiple hrs a day. It has the stock 15-45 gear ratio and will only get up in 1st gear. I can always get it up and ride for a little ways but I always run out gear. I’m wondering if I should gear it down so I can get it up in 2nd or if I should gear it up so I can go faster in 1st. (i don’t need to be going faster than 85mph so top speed is not a factor)

Please leave your input on what gear ratio I would be best for me. Up or down, as well as what size sprocket would be best because I just want to do wheelies haha

You need to get your speed/rpm right. I am no wheelie expert or stunter, but on stock gearing I could easily get it up in 2nd. I have since changed the chain/sprockets and went up a tooth on the front sprocket, and can still get it up in 2nd.... Granted I am doing 20-25ish mph when I pull it up now. Just need to practice your technique and get the speeds right....

Exactly this. Stunters use much bigger gearing but they aren’t just doing wheelies. Get your technique right first. Anyone can power wheelie in second but it’s not the same as a controlled wheelie.
