ECU mapping?

Hi guys,

So an update on this. I have just been into KTM and had the Akrapovic map installed in my bike and....what a change!

Firstly the technician rode the bike before installing the map to get an idea of how it rode. When he came back he said it was running lean which was because of the Arrow exhaust (no cat) and K&N air filter.

He then reset the ECU and installed the Akrapovic map and the change is big. Now not a huge gain in HP but I can't believe how smooth and linear the power is now. It pulls strong from bottom right through to redline, also now no jerking at low revs and the flat spot I had at around 8000rpm is totally gone.

Interestingly after he installed the new map before he test rode it again he started the bike and let it idle without touching the throttle until the fan came on, he said you need to do this to initialise the map, it's not 15mins like some say. He said to also do this if you go and ride in say a place where the altitude is very different to where you normally ride. The ECU can compensate for a about +10 or -10% without having to plug it into the KTM computer.

So all in all very happy with the result, it feels like a new bike now, all for $64.00. Again not a huge HP increase but it feels like this map really takes full advantage of the free flowing exhaust and air filter. Also at the end of the day it's only a 375cc single, it's never going to make big HP.

so i called ktm headquarters and they told my the 390 didnt have any maps for the akra pipe even tho on the powerparts site when you look up the akra pipe it says "comes with custom map". i was very disappointed, they said its just been copied from the 690 page etc that actually needs a remap . i called my dealer again to ask about it some more, all they said was that it needs to be flashed so the computer can tune itself that little bit further than the +- 10% it normally would do.. so i got the first service done and was going to get the ecu flashed. when i arrived to pick up the bike i talked to the technician and asked some questions.. he said no no they have actually brought out a map for the akra.. he had just got back from a weekend training ktm sent him to about the new maps.. he said most people (in the workshop, and others by the sounds) just know what there talking about..
anyway i can definitely notice the difference! much nicer ride.

p.s i quoted you hardridding because on the site it does say if you buy the akra pipe it comes with the map so you could totally hit your dealer up at say they owe you it as it was supposed to be included when you bought the pipe!
Thanks. Glad you got it sorted.

I didn't actually buy a akrapovic, I brought a Arrow

The akra comes with the link pipe not header, so its the same as what you got for the arrow except Akra have the big canister.
The arrow CAT slides into the pipe from the link to the slip on.

You can buy any slip on but you will still need either Akra's or Arrow's link pipe.

Map can only be uploaded by KTM as its a preset ECU adjustment.
Yeah cheers, just got the word. I just have to go into my KTM service agent pay the dosh (about $70) and get an extra 5HP, not bad. will give an update in a few weeks when its done.

Also can someone please tell me what the difference between the Akrapovic slip-on and full system is? Is it simply that with the full system you also get the pipe that goes to the head as well? If it is I dont see much of a difference over the stock pipe from the head and no wonder the full Akra system is a ridiculous price as that will all be titanium.

I know the Akra slip-on retains the cat but where is this located? I'm guessing it is in the canister that sits in the swingarm area? Dose the Akra full system retain this canister?

My Arrow came with the Muffler and connecting pipe (with canister) that goes to the headder pipe, however the cat is extra so im not sure where is goes. Maybe in the section where the muffler goes on?

Right...so after calling a lot of people about this I have found out that the only map available for download is the one you get when you buy the Akrapovic Pipe which gives +5HP. However what I dont know is if this is some sort of code with the pipe or a KTM service agent can just do it when they put the pipe on.

I have a Arrow on mine but I want the map download and of course are happy to purchase the map as extra. Has anyone brought a Akrapovic with the map and knows how this works????

Hi guys,

Is there anymore word on this???

I have just put a Arrow Exhaust and K&N Air Filter on my 390 and want to remap the ECU. Preferably I would like the stock ECU just to be re-mapped?

Dose anyone know if KTM can do this???

Thanks
