I'm running 16/45, very similar to 15/42. I top out high 170kph range. I expect it will be higher now with the Gray Area KTM airbox and extended redline.
And do you feel comfortable on that bike at that speed?
I had a sports bike (Honda VFR400) which was designed to ride fast and I felt comfortable on it with 170.
But on the Duke it gets really windy soon. I don't think I ever had it over 130. It's just not that kind of bike - IMHO.
I bought it for the city - perfect.
You can get a weight savings with an alloy 42T cog, so there's an argument for going that route.
16T didn't require any change to chain, not sure if you need to reduce a link for 42. Definitely will lengthen the wheelbase otherwise though.
You can get a SuperSprox Stealth or Moto-Master (aluminium heart, steel teeth) both lighter than the OEM 45T or 42T sprockets.
