Hey all, I want to change my fork springs and fork oil on my bike.
I'd pay someone locally to do it, but they are all either scared to do it, or I don't actually think they know how and are just going to wing it. I don't want to pay someone to wing it, thanks.
I just need a step by step so I don't screw anything up.
I have good tools and am a liscenced auto tech so i can do most things.
thanks!!
PS, I know this is crossposted on the RC390 forums but I know there are more people on this forum.
I am assuming the front forks are, if not the exact same, they are close.
Try searching youtube I managed a cartridge conversion on my Triumph Thruxton conventional forks with the help of my laptop in the shed using pause and rewind where necessary .
I'd love to find one on youtube FOR THIS BIKE. tons of tutorials for other bikes, or ones that are sorta similar.
There is one for our bikes but in Thai, and he is installing Andriani internals and I just want to change the oil and maybe the spring or add preload to the stock spring.
I'd love just some clear pics of the places you can frig up, and the things to watch out for.
Just had a thought , if you want to adjust spring preload are there any spring preload adjusters fitted to any other WP forks that would work on yours . Zero experience working on upside down forks so far but I know that with forks fitted to my Triumph Thruxton for instance there are many options for swapping parts such as non preload adjustable Bonneville forks can have Thruxton adjustable caps retro fitted some Honda CBR 600 fork internals reputed to be almost as good as Ohlins can also be retro fitted . Maybe reach out to a *********** suspension specialist for advice on what can be done .
I found out the hard way that my bike (2017 Duke 390) does not have cartridge forks. So it's a simple matter of taking the top cap off and changing springs or adding a preload spacer, just like the old days. No need to remove the casting at the bottom of the slider. Earlier RC390s have cartridge forks which are more complicated. I suspect (but do not know) that a 2018 Duke 390 will have the same basic non-cartridge forks.
