Has anyone ever contacted the fella from Australia that makes the kev mod to see if he does them for our 390's? He lists them for the 690... I have a friend has one fitted to his yamaha 660 and says it great job

They are made by a guy called Kev and he is on a few forums, also sells on eBay as user 7416kevxtx. Depending on bike he offers a couple of mods such as a fuel mod much like the RB Easy/ Boosterplug. There are a few different people out there making this sort of stuff. Kev seems to have a good reputation but I’ve never really looked into what he does.

Yea that's the guy he just got back to me saying he did make one a few years back but no one bought them so stopped. I just simply what the bike to stop stalling when cold and start up easily as atm is a pain to start once it cuts out. Ktm could find nothing and it the only issue I have so really what to sort it. I'm more thinking of ordering the boosterplug as it states to solve all this. Not must feedback on there about them so just not sure if they work too well on the 390

Did KTM check the valve clearances?
Also, didn’t you just purchase this bike used?
Already replaced the battery correct?

Yea bought it used with 2700 miles got it delivered from the mainland to n. Ireland and when I got it the battery was flat. Replaced the battery and got it running but was a pain to start when cold once warmed up its fine. But embarrassing when you stop at the junction and the bike dies and takes ages to start it. And no my ktm dealer wanted £500 to check the valves so I'll just do that job myself.

The starting situation you just described sounds exactly like valves out of specification. I bet once you let it cool and take the time to get in there and check/adjust to within spec, you will have no more hard starting issue.

Gonna check them in the next few weeks or so. Seen it a pain if a job to do. Any experience doing this yourself? Was wondering if I would be easier to drop the engine out to do it

I have not done it yet. I’m only at 275 miles.
When the time comes though, I will be doing it myself as I don’t like others touching my stuff

Graham,

To make it easier on the first Gen Dukes take off the tank, to even make more accessible you may opt to take off the radiator.
Ones the valve cover is off put a clean (no sand or dust) cloth in the space where the cam0chain goes down to avoid anything dropping into the engine.
Also, check the forum for the latest on valve clearances as posted some time ago on increasing recommended clearances.
Good luck.
