Total noob here as far as wrenching goes. So I'm trying to adjust chain tension and I need to loosen the rear axle bolt. Doing it with a standard 3/8 drive socket wrench didn't work. Do I need a breaker bar? Does the drive size matter? Do I need to hold the corresponding bolt on the other side of the bike in place somehow?

Help this noob out.

It has a decent torque setting. Do you have a breaker bar? If not you could use a large wrench on the end of the 3/8 to give you more leverage.

You need to hold the other end of the bolt otherwise it’ll spin when you try to undo the nut. Use a spanner or another wrench.

A breaker bar does help to get the nut loose.

3/8 drive can do it, but obvs a 1/2” drive would be stronger.

I think it’s 90nm when tightening

Here’s a good vid by a forum member, check out his other vids too, helpful for both noobs and non-noobs
