I would like to change my statement and only blame my laziness and procrastination.

So I was just giving it a try and found out that.
My phone connects perfectly with bike's bluetooth without any app. Bike bluetooth name is "KTM SPORTMOTORCYCLE"
I had not connected to any audio output but I was able to change songs from button and see it happening on TFT + on my mobile.
I've owned this bike for an year now and clocked almost 10k kilometres. Recently did a 7 day long trip where I was changing songs via my helmet bluetooth device.

Laziness sucks man.
But would be enjoying this on my next trips.

I gotta chime in on this, just a little, because I noticed ppl saying they'd actually 'paid' $7 for the phone app. That $7 app is for the Super Duke with NAV, not the 390... and the only way that Google Play will even 'show' you there's a Connect app for your Android phone is if the OS version is no newer than 8.1. So if you look on Google Play and you DONT see the app come up, check your Android version in your settings, that's why.

I should digress... er, i may have missed a key point by assuming i made absolute sense.
'If' you have an android that is version 7 or 8 or 8.1... and you search Google Play for "KTM My Ride", it will actually show up on the Google Play app when browsing from your phone (not on a pc, ok?). BUT... if you have Android version 4.2, or version 9, or version 10... well, in that case it won't even show up in your Google Play search result. Does that now make sense? And the reason it won't show up is becuz the GP app knows your Android version, and won't offer it to you, becuz they already know it won't work.
Ok, i think i rep'd that a little better now. I think.... ok, yeah.

Bluetooth and phone, basically technology is weird.
Today was Sunday here in India and I went on a short ride. Noticed that when starting songs for the time after connecting, it should be done via helmet bluetooth button.
Starting song via phone and bike buttons started the song timer but no audio.
After that it was a smooth ride where I was handling songs from buttons on handle.

I've got a Note 9 running Android 10. The My Ride Connect app runs fine and my phone wouldn't connect without it. Ran fine on Android 9 also.

It shows up for me when I search for it in the Play Store.

That's the one you want, and it's free.

One of the biggest complaints with it is that it only works with Google Play Music on Android. It's gonna be interesting soon when Google sunsets Play Music for YouTube Music.

I also find that it works fine once music is playing, but I can't seem to get it to start music if I forget to start it from the phone.

I agree with the last part. But I've used with YouTube music and it works perfectly.

Yes you have to start music from mobile/helmet bluetooth for the first time when you're starting.

Wow! Awesome dude. I had manually downloaded 4 versions of the software, experimenting, and finally gave into what the last publication claimed, so I bought an older LG Stylo 4 with 8.1 to make it work. But this is good news!

I have xiaomi mi 9se with android 10. Connection to duke works fine with the ktm myride and even without it. But when I connect my beoplay e8 earbuds the things start to mess up. I can either listen to music but can not control it from the dukes handlebar, or I control it from handlebars but music does not go to the buds but goes to the duke. This way it is completely useless. It worked as it should only once. But now I can't find a way how. Any help please?

I took a whole day to figure this out. ASUS ROG phone II running Android 9. I'm a long time Spotify user and very happy when it works with left bike buttons.

This how step-by-step:

1. Install BT Direct from Playstore. If it says "only compatible with older version of Android" ignore it. Don't open it yet.

2. Pair your Phone's bluetooth with the bike using KTM's My Ride Connect app. Skip this if you've already done it before.

3. Now, make sure My Ride Connect app is closed and not running in the background. This is important. Simply close recent apps or use background killer app if necessary.

4. Open BT Direct and search your bike device (you don't have to start the bike but simply turn on ignition). Then choose "Pair". It will not make a new pair but the phone will connect to the bike.

5. If connection successfull you will see bluetooth icon in your bike dashboard.

6. Navigate to audio menu in the bike's dashboard. Open Spotify and play music. Voila, the music title appear in your dashboard and you press left hand buttons to skip/rewind music (short press) or adjust volume (long press).

7. If you are going to use bluetooth headset, make sure the headset is the last thing you turn it on. Otherwise it will mess up with music control.

So the trick is to bypass or make direct connection between phone & the bike, without using KTM's My Ride Connect. And the sequence must be: 1.Turn on the bike, 2.Open Spotify and 3.Turn on Bluetooth headset.

You only need to do this once and never open My Ride Connect app again.
