I couldn’t find this in any other pictures. Does anyone/everyone/no one have this on their bike. Part of it is just a hanging flap that I feel like snipping off.

It almost looks like packing material that someone forgot to remove.

That definitely does not look like it should be there and I would remove it immediately to make sure the air flows through the radiator.
I would try to remove it in one piece. Maybe you find where it belongs and want to install it again in the correct place.

Maybe this is a part to cover something above the radiator, maybe electric wires or something like that. I would check in drawings above the radiator. But probably someone else will know where that part comes from.

It does seem like it could impede airflow past the radiator to some extent, but it strangely seems zip tied in place. So it seems intentional at least to some extent. Maybe I’ll take a run to the dealer tomorrow.

No idea on the second gen bikes but 100% no on the first gen.
Not there or anywhere under the tank.

I was wondering if it’s a second gen thing. I’ve googled pretty much every engine picture I can find, and I definitely don’t see it on the first gen, but I *might* see it on the second gen. Though mine looks messed up even if it is supposed to be there.

Rubber sheet/radiator

Is that a second-hand, second gen bike you've got?'
If so the previous owner might just have done this as 1jzsupra suggests.
Take it back to the dealer and asked them.
If it is a rubber flap mounted with ty-wraps I guess its an amateur job done by "someone".

It’s a brand new 2018; no previous owner. I’m going to try to run over to the dealer today to figure this out. Maybe the 2018s have it because of heat complaints like that piece of metal on the left side of the frame they added that’s supposedly not on the 2017s

I stopped at the dealer, and sure enough the other 2018 they have had it too. It’s tucked slightly differently at the top, but it otherwise looks the same as mine.

I’m guessing, like the metal plate on the 2018s, it’s to address complaints of roasted shins. Who knows.

You stopped and the dealer and you saw it on other bikes. That's a good first step.
But why didn't you ask the specialists at the dealer what it's all about?
It seems to be bad for air-flow and depending where you are (hot?) that's bad.

You’re sounding a wee bit snarky there buddy. I didn’t ask because I got there before they opened, and everyone who works there was moving bikes outside. So I snuck inside to look at another bike. I was pretty happy just to verify it’s on other 2018s. I’ll be back there next week more officially. I’ll pick their brains more then. In the mean time, mine’s never gone more than four bars on the temp gauge, so it seems fine.

Ok, you are right, please forgive me. The way you describe it it makes sense. But you can imagine my first thought was: Why didn't he just ask them?
Enjoy the day :)

I can understand that, though the other part of the reason I didn’t try harder to talk to anyone is that everyone there was part of the sales department. When I pick someone’s brain, I want it to be someone in the service department. *Some* salesmen are too quick to make stuff up.

Hey, just another excuse to ride over there.

It does look as in the parts manual there is a <93005090000 shield> behind the radiator but not held in place by ty-raps.

Is it a 2018 thing only? Can you tell how it’s held in place? There’s only one zip tie I can see, and I can’t tell how the rest is held in place.

Looking at the drawing part 49 looks like it has a big "hole" where the fan is and it should cover the radiator part which is outside of the fan.

I can see why you’d say that, but that drawing is misleading. That ‘hole’ doesn’t line up with the fan, it’s below it.

Also, unlike in the video you posted, the fan is actually sandwiched between the radiator and the rubber sheet.

It definitely isn’t improving airflow. It’s for one of two things that I can imagine. It’s either keeping heat from blowing backwards perhaps because of complaints, or maybe to keep hot air from blowing on the engine or electrical components above the engine (it’s mounted up high). Or, maybe it’s to keep water from spraying all of the electrical components and connectors above the engine. At this point, only KTM knows.

Here’s another picture, and you can see clearly it’s between the fan and the engine.
